A Royal Enfield motorcycle tour from the plains through Manali to the high mountains. We explore the hidden world of the Ladakh plateau a high altitude desert on the Manali Leh Highway riding a Royal Enfield Bullet. After resting in Manali we kick-off for Leh, riding over 1900kms across the world's highest roads and passes to a Himalayan Shangri La and on a Royal Enfield, India's most famous motorcycle. Glimpse the Khampa Nomads on the Ladakh Plateau and discover the peaceful lanes and shady orchards in the ancient silk road capital of Leh. First a Welcome to India Dinner and a chance to chat amongst fellow riders and start the Tour Briefing. The next day we transfer to Chandigarh by Fast Train. In Chandigarh (one of India's most modern cities) you take charge of your Royal Enfield Bullet. This motorcycle tour is about fantastic roads, snaking endlessly up high mountains - The Silk Road on a Royal Enfield Bullet, destination Leh. As you ride you join the ‘three mile high club’, we'll cruise to 18,500 feet, riding Royal Enfield Bullets over the world's highest motorable road to Nubra. Tour Essentials Location: North India. Administration StuffSingles - Singles can opt for a single room for an additional fee of €50. But generally we put singles of the same gender together sharing a twin room (or a double + single bed room).
Pre – Post Tour - Arrangements can be made for additional days before and after the planned Tour dates including escorted transfer to the scheduled Tour hotel. Additional transfer and hotel room fees will be charged pro-rata.
Accommodation - We stay in 3 star hotels, a crumbling Maharaja's Manor House, Tents and in Leh a peaceful Guest House.

Reality CheckClimate / Toughness Rating - This is a physically demanding Road Tour with some long riding days, requiring a degree of mental and physical stamina. Domestic transfers are as comfortable as possible, though delays can be experienced at Leh Airport due to it’s altitude and prevailing weather conditions. Warm daytime sun, evenings cool to chilly, snow is possible, generally no rain after the Rhotang pass.

Finding maps of remote and far away places is a challenge at the best of times. In London I would go to Stanfords. In San Fransisco I would go to Rand McNally's. In Leh Ladkah I would go to the local bookshop in the market square. In Kargil it's the stationery shop, and in Srinagar look in the book shops. |

A question arose about the scale and distances involved on a particular map we were reading, something like, "How big is this map?" There was no Distance Scale Rule printed on the map, save the chilly numbers 1:250,000. Ok that's 1 bit on the map = 250,000 bits on the ground right? So how far is it between here and there... |
