Touring Central Nepal With The English Brothers
The Three English Brothers, two of whom I met in Ladakh earlier in the year, came to Nepal for adventure. Three of us on two bikes explored some of Central Nepal over 4 days in November 2006. We make it Chitwan and leave the bikes under the guard of an old Russian Jeep. The gardens of Sauraha are quiet abundantly beautiful, all year round. Sauraha is also famous for its elephant breeding centre, set in the hot wet Terai of southern Nepal.
A Tharu farmer leads his ox cart across a stream near the elephant breeding centre. A sweetly painted Tanga awaits its pony. These are seen all over the Terai. A cool village garden. Ellie sits down to collect his next group of passengers. They will saunter through the jungle for a few hours observing all kinds of wild animals, including the baby rhino, rapidly becoming an endangered species.
Bulldozers clear monsoon damage and making repairs to the east west highway. Graham and Gary cruise the highway. Paan to wash away the road dirt. Hetauda. Old Rana buildings in Baishee.
Climbing up the valley towards Bhimphedi. An old steel bridge connecting Kathmandu with the southern Tribhuvan Kingsway near Hetauda. Overlooking Bhimphedi. Approaching the dam at Khulekani
On a ridge before the dam looking north towards Ganesh Himal. The lake behind the dam at Khulekani. Resting a while in the hills. The sun goes down as we approach Pharping town.
