The purpose in constructing a highway between the capital
Kathmandu with the arterial East West highway to
the south east of Kathmandu, is to relieve the strain on other older and harder-to-maintain
highways linking Kathmandu to the south of the nation. Of these the eastern most is
the Tribhuvan Rajpath, built by India in the
1950s, being the most blighted by the forces of nature. Our road story begins with a pump stop to fill-up with petrol, all over the Kathmandu
Valley petrol was in short supply.
