The Road to Zanskar Discovering Zanskar by Bullet was a beautiful and inspiring ride. The long road south from Kargil was at once challenging and rewarding, all the way. Bruno and I rode the 245 kilomteres over 2 days - a stone road, broken in many places. A local bus does the journey in one day, when it's not delayed due to landslides and swollen rivers. It was a journey that took us up a valley once inhabited by Buddhists though now more visible is the Muslim population. On earlier expeditions up the Saru valley I have discovered Buddhist statues, carved out of rockfaces, standing 5 metres high. This time we would discover many mosques, standing out as silvery landmarks across the Saru valley floor. << Start < Prev 1 2 3 Next > End >> |
