Ladakh to Kashmir 2006 Touring with Geoff
Geoff and Peter Load the Bikes ready to leave Delhi Hill country above Shimla Day two arriving in Manali Approaching Rhotang La
The passes get higher. Baralachla La 16,500ft Geoff had felt quite sick at Sarchu so we rested there an extra day. The altitude often affects people adversely in Sarchu Tanglang La 5,359m. The second highest pass we climbed. The weather was warm and sunny – but it’s not always the same Arriving in Leh. The green was so refreshing after days riding through dry dusty deserts
Summiting Khardung La 5,360m. There was snow on the ground, but the sunshine was hot. The air is very thin and quickly you can become breathless. Appearing as tiny as ants, trucks make their way carefully to Khardung La Top. 5,360m. Old Tibetan keys to the gumba at Diskit. Ruins of old monastic dwellings or cells at Lamayuru.
En route to Lamayuru. The high road to Lamayuru. Kargil coming! Zojila behind us. Geoff said he was narrowly missed by falling stones.
Deep relaxation after a shikara ride around the lakes in Srinagar. The best hotel in Dalhousie! An old ‘Britisher time’ hotel, with very comfortable rooms. In Dharamsala Geoff and I went for a short day trek to the ridge above McLeod Ganj. Tired and in need of a hot bath, we arrive back, 28 days later, in Delhi. We had ridden just over 3000kms.
