Day Itinerary Detail
Day 1
Arrive in Delhi and transfer to your south Delhi hotel. We’ll have a welcome dinner, talk about bikes, tours and kit and prepare for the journey ahead. You will pack your bike luggage and leave your suitcases in this Delhi hotel to await your return. You will night stop here in Delhi.
Day 2 An early start to escape Delhi’s orbit. We drive about 150kms to the start of the ride. Arriving at a desert resort we meet the bikes, load our luggage and start the ride. 120kms on small desert roads to our first desert night-stop. Haveli heaven in the small town of Ramgarh.
Day 3 Familiarity with your Bullet grows as we set off on our first long days ride. We’re heading west direction Bikaner. Chai and a bite to eat at roadside stop and off again. Through scrubland, the hillocky road leads us 185 kms into the Great Thar Desert. We night-stop in a haveli hotel the perfect place to rest with rooftop restaurant and pleasant garden.
Day4 The long – 330 kms south west, lies ahead. Sandy desert roads will test your riding skills, as we pass camel trains and local traffic. Riding through only two large towns - famous for salt trading, huge bird migrations and nuclear tests, our destination is the golden fortress town of Jaisalmer.
Day 5 Our first double day stop gives riders a chance to explore the desert on camel-back and later a jeep to the famous Desert Festival in the evening; the dunes explode with colour, music, craft bazaars and cuisine. And after a dusty day, relax beside (or in) the pool at our golden sandstone, castle-like hotel.
Day 6 The Royal Seat of Maharajas for hundreds of years and home of the horse riding pants of the same name, we’re heading for the capital, Jodhpur, 265kms. From the western desert through the Baorli Hills to a capital “...above whose sea of blue dwellings, towers the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort.” Our night stop, a mansion built in the '20s by Maharaj Ratan Singhji of Raoti, one of Jodhpur's Royals.
Day 7 We ride a zig-zag route south for 260kms. Across the plains of Pali up the ghats onto the Bhorat Plateau, after a glimpse of the ancient fort at Kumbhlagarh, we halt at the mystical Jain Temple at Ranakpur. A marvel in white marble, built and preserved for 600 years by the same family, so the Brahmin will tell you. On across the Banas river and into Udaipur set in the Mewar Hills. We night stop beside the Fateh Sagar Lake.
Day 8 Our second double-day stay. Stroll the streets at day break, great fun exploring in old Udaipur; The City Palace, the Lake Palace (Hotel), the Ghats and a ride to the Shilpgram – a living model village and sunset at the Monsoon Palace. Back for cold beers and dinner overlooking the lake.
Day 9 Riding a short section of the Golden Quadrilateral, beyond the Chappan Hills lies Chittorgarh seat of the bravest Rajputs, the Chattari a warrior caste, built forts and temples. In war they chose ‘Jauhar’ preferring to die by fire than surrender alive. We climb the Singoli Plateau passing Hindu Temples at Manal - ‘Deep Gorge’, where in lies a ruined palace. Our Bundi night stop a cosy old town Haveli.
Day 10 Our third Double-Day. We’re in a narrow valley, high above our old town haveli perched on the ridge, the magical Bundi Palace; of fairtale stories when lit at night. Stroll the streets; find Abdul Azim weaving Kota Doryia, blacksmiths and sweet makers in narrow side streets. And Taragarh Fort and the Bundi Palace. And back for a beer and a rooftop dinner.
Day 11 We're back on the bikes, but from Blue to Pink. We’re riding to Jaipur, first highway then byeway, and crumbling roads, through village life, farmers at work and herds of buffalo, cows and goats. We pass ‘not yet built cities’, 220kms, coming in from the south. Jaipur is wonderful, a joy to explore!
Day 12 Our last Double-Day. The Hawa Mahal - a place of Purdah, The Palace of Winds. The Jantar Mantar, an astrological observatory carved in stone. Markets and markets, silk, diamonds and gems. Then a ride north to Amber for our last great fort. Probably the largest and finest in all Rajasthan. And back for dinner and drinks on the roof.
Day 13 Today is the Tour’s last ride day. We’re heading east. We aiming for small roads so we’ll ride slightly further, India’s villages, the heart of the nation. It’s a road less ridden, so all the more fun. Our night stop in Bharatpur is set in cool gardens, close to Keoladeo bird sanctuary. We salute our Bikes over drinks in the garden.
Day 14 It’s the last day of the Tour. We’ve dropped off the bikes and driving east it’s time for the Taj. “It’ll take your breath away.” There’s the famous Red Fort, larger and grander than Delhi’s Lal Qila. Some lunch then drive north to Delhi. You last night stop is where you first stayed. Then we’ll go out for dinner and a last taste of India.
Day 15 The Tour is over. Your onward journey begins.
