Where do we go on The Central Nepal Tour...

The Tour traverses the geographically central regions of Nepal. The relatively simple network of highways across Nepal means there are always going to be sections of 'east to west' and vice versa. We aim to take you out on one highway and return on another, where possible linking via different north-south highways.

The outward bound route is through the low mountains, where the road twists along deep river valleys, crossing wide rivers, and climbs long sections of zig-zags. Some of the highways we ride are main trunk routes and in sections are poorly maintained. However long sections of smaller highways are free from heavy traffic and offer fantastic views of mountains and village life. These roads are often narrow and too steep for trucks to ply. There are few roads into the high mountains and those that have been built are suited only to jeeps and tractors.

Returning from west to east, we ride across the plains or wetlands - the Terai, stopping to enjoy Tharu village life and jungle safaris - walking, on elephant back and by canoe, before heading further east past the Kathmandu Valley and north towards the Tibet border.

The recent Tour we ran for Elio Manca, veered off the published itinerary and included Lumbini. But Elio rode only for 8 days and hence didn’t have time for the Nepal/Tibet border sector nor Jiri, further east. If you want to ride for the full Tour (plus perhaps a day or two) your route can include Lumbini and the route we take east towards the Tibet border and on to the end of the northern road east to the Everest Region.

Our published Tour does not include Lumbini, rather, we adjust the itinerary to include those places you are particularly interested to visit.

As for accommodation, we stay in an assortment of renovated hill-village hotels, in Pokhara we stay in a very comfortable hotel on the Lakeside, close to all the social/tourist action. Lumbini offers a range of accommodation from simple guest house to 5 star hotel, we choose somewhere in between. Near the Tibet border we stay in a cool, relaxed, terraced, luxury camp resort. And Kathmandu we’ll put you in a comfortable and quiet hotel near the centre of Thamel. All will have bathrooms, unless you choose to stay on the highway at an unscheduled stop. In short, accommodation ranges from the simple guest house, to smart comfortable hotels, with a luxury camp near the end of the Tour, before returning to Kathmandu.

You’ll ride this Tour with Sherap. Sherap speaks excellent English and with his knowledge of Nepal, its ways and customs, you’ll be riding with the most experienced guide.

You will need to bring your driving licence and a valid International Driving Permit. With varying frequency the traffic police erect checkpoints, where valid driving documents must be presented.

The map below will give you an idea of the area covered by the Tour.
