Lepcha Boys celebrate Maghe SankrantiAlthough Buddhism appears the predominant religion in Sikkim there are large numbers Hindus in the State. Buddhism is followed by most Tibetans and Sikkimese Bhutias. Whereas Hinduism is followed by the majority of Nepalese. Other religions too flourish in Sikkim, largely due to the tolerant nature of the Sikkimese people.

Sikkim, is rich in biodiversity and has 150 lakes which range in altitude from 200m to just under 8000m. With it’s roots of culture bound in the Buddhist way Sikkim is home to a range of Mongolian races, including Lepcha, Limbu and Tibetan, many Sikkimese are of Nepali origin.
