 Sikkim lies in the eastern Himalayas in the lap of Khangchendzonga, ‘the guardian deity’ and the third tallest peak in the world. To the north of Sikkim lies the vast Tibetan plateau; to the east the “forbidden kingdom” of Bhutan and on its western fringes, the kingdom of Nepal.

Sikkim Festivals
Although Buddhism appears the predominant religion in Sikkim there are large numbers Hindus in the State. Buddhism is followed by most Tibetans and Sikkimese Bhutias. Whereas Hinduism is followed by the majority of Nepalese. Other religions too flourish in Sikkim, largely due to the tolerant nature of the Sikkimese people.
