Talk to travellers you meet on the path and you'll hear stories of wonderous places and unusual people, of unbelievable sights and tastes and smells and sounds like nothing you've ever seen or heard or tasted before. Since the beginning of time, travellers have shared their experiences with other travellers. Recounting their tales they have no idea how they may be inspiring those around them, with the details of an adventure in a far away place, in a far off land. Kathmandu for example, has always been one of the major centres where ancient met modern. Silk roads ran north from here (and in many other places) into and across the Himalayan Ranges to meet traders with salt and silk and herbs and gold and goods from China and central Asia. If you're inspired to explore the Himalaya, if you feel the need to ride through the forest or trek up a mountain, cascade down a white water giant by kayak or soft trek for days in boundless hills, then we know how to get you there. We at FreeSpirit can lead you into those still special places, shrouded in mysticism, high into Himalayan countries, each with its own special flavour of Buddhism, each with its own people and trades and culture, each with its own unique customs and qualities, views and tastes. Sometimes on Road Tours riders say they can feel the intensity and vastness of the whole experience and that it takes time to sink-in. So we stop; on the corner, down on the plains, at top of the pass and sit quietly, breathe the air and take in the panorama. Sometimes the group consensus says "Stop! Let's stay a while, spend an extra day here!" With our flexible schedules we can stop, relax in the mountains or stay by the river or ride on, just a bit further. During our Tours across the sub-continent we encounter many strange practices, lifestyles and customs. Almost every day something new arrives to amaze us, be it endless tens of thousands of pilgrims or villagers gathering to practise their customs and rituals and all on the way, every single day. Our Road Captains, Outriders, Mountain and River Guides always work hard to ensure you get the very best from your expereince, in strange and foreign lands. We believe that as Tour leaders we must have ridden the road, walked the trail and rafted the river. To lead and know how, to guide and know where and to help but know when. |
